Club Information
Fees: $225 for 1 wrestler; $425 for 2 wrestlers; $600 for 3 wrestlers, and $25 off for each addition wrestler. Your fee covers the USA Wrestling card and tournament entry fees. Partial refund before December 1st. NO REFUND after December 1st.
Deposit: $100 deposit for uniform and for tournament help. This deposit check will be returned at the end of the season provided at least one parent works our tournament and the uniform is returned.
Practice Schedule: Will be set after registration.
Tournaments are usually on Sunday. Each tournament may have a different start time for wrestling, but weigh-ins generally begin at 7am. A calendar with the practice and tournament schedule will be handed out the second week of practice.
Clothing: Your child should wear comfortable clothing, shorts and a t-shirt, for practice along with a CLEAN pair of wrestling shoes. Do not have your wrestler wear his/her wrestling shoes outside of the wrestling room. The shoes worn TO practice should not be the shoes they wear IN practice. They will be sweating in practice so we recommend that they bring an extra t-shirt to change into before leaving the building. Please make sure they have sweatpants and a hat or hooded sweatshirt/jacket to wear after practice.
Uniform singlets will be handed out prior to first tournament in December. Please wash the singlet in cold water and hang dry. Singlets must not be put into the dryer.
Mustang logo sweatshirts and pants will be available to order for a fee.
Hygiene: Because of the physical contact of this sport, it is important that you send your child to practice with clean clothes and shoes. We keep our mats as clean as possible but if your child comes in with dirty clothes and shoes, it puts him and the other wrestlers at risk. Your child should SHOWER (not bathe) after every practice. This greatly reduces the chance for him to get infections that are associated with this sport (mainly ringworm). We recommend that you wipe down your wrestlers headgear and shoes with Clorox Wipes or some other type of cleaning product after each practice.
Competition/Tournaments: Your wrestler will compete in Sunday (sometimes Saturday) tournaments. Depending on age, your child will wrestle 2 (6-8yrs) to 3 (9 and up) matches. The host club and size of the tournament determine how long it takes to complete your wrestler’s matches. A tournament may take anywhere from 4 to 8 hours. The 8 year old and younger wrestlers normally finish their two matches by noon. We recommend that you bring things to keep your child occupied in between matches (IKWF rule requires at least 1 hour between matches). Some proven essentials for your tournament bag are PSP games, DS games, the newspaper, soft cooler, and a lot of fruit or snacks. More information will be handed out before the first tournament in early December.
This year the club will attend the IKWF Kids Open in Springfield, Illinois. The tournament will be held on January 14th-15th, Martin Luther King weekend. There is a block of rooms on hold at the Hampton Inn & Suites, 2300 Chuckwagon Dr., 217-793-7670. The hotel rate for a standard room is $89.00, Studio $119 and 2 Bedroom Suite $139.00. The block is reserved under the Mustang Wrestling Club until December 28th.
This tournament is for experienced wrestlers ages 8 & up only. Coaches/parents are not allowed on the mat at this tournament.
Discipline: This is a sport that requires a lot of direction by coaches. The coaches need the full and undivided attention of the wrestlers. While we do realize that the younger children can get restless, we attempt to keep the practice moving at a pace to keep their attention. Coaches will ask a child to correct their behavior should that be required. If a child
is continually disruptive, we will ask him to sit outside the wrestling room and call a parent to pick them up. If this behavior continues, we will dismiss the child from the team with no refund.
Information: All correspondence is given to wrestlers at the end of practice or emailed. The correspondence generally applies to when and where the next tournament is. PLEASE check your child’s bag at the end of practice for these notes. All other information can be found on the glass of the trophy case or on the bulletin board- both located outside the wrestling room. OUR TEAM’S WEBSITE WILL ALSO DISPLAY IMPORTANT CLUB INFORMATION/NOTICES: www.mustangwrestlingclub.net
Tournament Help: In order to keep participation costs down, the team hosts one tournament per season. This tournament normally takes place at the end of the season. Because of the amount of help needed to run a tournament (concession, security, set up, clean up, front door, table help), your deposit is our guarantee that you will help work the tournament. You will receive enough notice to make arrangements to have at least one parent available to help work this tournament or your deposit is forfeited.
Safety: For the safety of your child, we ask that you do not “drop off” your child at the park fieldhouse and drive away. The wrestling room at the Park is located in the basement. We request that you accompany your child down to the wrestling room and also come inside the building to pick them up. With a large number of kids and a limited number of coaches, it is difficult to ensure that each wrestler goes home with their parents. Our wrestlers’ safety is important to us.
